I type fast, about 70 words per minute on average, and sometimes even 85 words per minute on my best days. I love typing on a real keyboard. The feeling of pressing physical keys and hearing the click of each one makes it easy for me to type quickly and accurately. But when I switch to typing on my phone, it’s a whole different story.
Even though I can type fast on a regular keyboard, my typing speed slows down a lot when I use my phone. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Typing on a small screen is hard for anyone who is used to the bigger keys of a keyboard.
The Speed Difference
On a full-sized keyboard, I can type 70 wpm on average, with bursts of up to 85 wpm when I’m really in the zone. Typing feels natural and easy. But on my phone, everything changes. The tiny keys and the lack of physical feedback make typing slower and more difficult. My fingers don’t have enough space, and I often end up pressing the wrong keys.
The biggest issue is that I don’t get the same comfort and flow I have with a keyboard. It’s just harder to type fast and accurately on a phone.
Why It’s Hard to Type on Phones
Here are some reasons why typing on my phone is so much slower:
- Small Screen and Tiny Keys: The phone’s keyboard is small, and my fingers have to work in a tiny space. It’s harder to type quickly when the keys are so close together, and there’s no physical feedback.
- No Physical Keys: On a regular keyboard, I can feel the keys as I type, which helps me type faster. On my phone, I have to look at the screen to find the letters, which slows me down and makes mistakes more common.
- Autocorrect Problems: Autocorrect is supposed to help, but sometimes it just makes things worse. I often end up with strange words I didn’t type, and fixing them can be time-consuming. On a real keyboard, I don’t have to deal with that as much.
- Limited Finger Movement: I usually type on my phone with just my thumbs or one hand, but with a keyboard, I can move my fingers freely across the keys. This limits my speed on a phone and forces me to stop more often.
Conclusion
Typing on a phone is definitely a challenge, especially if you’re used to typing on a real keyboard. While it’s hard for me to type as fast on my phone, I’ve learned how to cope with it. It’s just not as comfortable or efficient as using a full-sized keyboard. If you also struggle with mobile typing, I totally get it!
